GETTING SOME REST ON AN AIRPLANE!

GETTING SOME REST ON AN AIRPLANE

Finding The Best Seat

The best seat to get some Zzzz’s and have a little extra room is the window seat of an exit row. If this is not available I personally like the middle row outside seat when I am able to pre-pick my seat. I choose a seat that has only one seat in between another traveler and myself.  Most travelers travel in pairs and families and let’s face it who really wants to sit away from their travel partners.  This thinking gives you the best advantage to having an empty seat next to you.

If you are in a middle seat.
Travel pillows are great options when dozing off

Wear Comfortable Clothing.

This does not mean you have to wear sweat pants nor should you. I personally love these yoga harem pants. They are super comfortable and stylish.

You can get these are here YOGA HAREM PANTS
Or bring a small pair of pajama bottoms to change into for the flight.

Bring Snacks And Water.

Often travels are worried about missing in-flight meals and drinks. If you bring your own you can relax and eat and drink when you want to not when food is being served.

Reasons to Support Local

Supporting local keeps more money in the local economy. Locally owned business build a sense of stronger community by keeping up the ecstatic of a neighborhood, by linking neighbors economically and socially, and by contributing to local causes.
One of a Kind business often select products based, not on a national sales or trends, but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, this provides more unique and specialized product choices.
Supporting the Environment. Buying local has less impact on the environment because items such as fruit and vegetables do not need to be shipped across the country to be purchases.  Therefore, produce is fresher and in season so you are getting a richer variety of food throughout the year.  In addition, local business often have nicer up keep and good use of their space unlike sprawling strip malls and huge outlet centers.

Above all you can have a sense of pride that you know where your products are coming from and who they are supporting. They are support you and your community!

LIFESTYLE DESIGN... MAKE IT EASIER

In my travels I am always looking for ways to make my “fly by the seat of my pants” travel plans more stress free. Often when I am traveling I need to be able to pack everything in one big carry-on bag and one large hobo “purse” for the plane ride ( Cute handbags are for later and are packed away. ) Too many times I would have lost my checked luggage due to quick plane transfers and last minute flight changes.

In my every day life I am a minimalist when it comes to make-up throw on some mascara and some lip gloss paired with a little glisten from the sun and I am good to go. During photo sessions for my clothing-line and other photo shoots. Being made-up goes to a whole different level…. And a whole new regime to remove the layer of contoured make- up on my face.

My savior!! Maybelline’s New Clean Express Makeup Remover!!!!
It goes on like a gel and does not feel greasy or oily on your skin. It also does not sting your eyes as you are trying to remove our eye makeup. Definitely my new best friend in Makeup remover.

WORKING OUT WHILE YOU ARE TRAVELING

What kind of traveling you are doing greatly determines the workout schedule, workout time and workout routine you have available to you.

Whether it’s for business, vacation, pleasure, soul searching, or life long quest, at some point you will be taken out of your normal routine.

If you are going on a business trip you are most liking staying in a hotel room. Make use of the hotel fitness room. Many hotels offer weight machines, treadmills, stationary bicycles, and fitness mats for stretching or exercising. Ask hotel staff where the fitness center is located in the building and what the hours are for the facility. Do not try to use any machine you are not use to using because if you use bad form it may cause injury.

If you do not have a gym in your hotel and cannot leave the hotel grounds use the hotel stairs and grounds as a workout. Free easy to use equipment.

Do not want to leave your room to work out??? Bring a Pilates DVD to play on your computer.

If you are traveling light use your own body weight to work out. Do push-ups, sit-ups, lunges, strength training, jumping jacks, jogging in place, and other basic moves to work your muscle groups, stretch, and get your heartbeat up.

Interlaken, Switzerland

My all-time favorite way to work out while on vacation is to walk or run everywhere especially if you want to see the sites. No cabs unless you are going to dinner and it is raining out. This way you get to see every nook and cranny of a town or mountain or beach. So then you can have your cake and eat it too.

DO NOT GET LOST WITH OUT IT.... DAY HIKING!

DAY HIKING

Gorgeous Lake in Swiss Alps!

Day hiking is one of my favorite hobbies. I love checking out new trails. Making special vacations and trips to experience new surrounding and sites.

One thing I have found that it is always better to have the right things with you even if it is just a day hike. A little extra things to carry, but you will be thankful in the end if you get lost or things go array.

Now if you are going on a simple small well-traveled trail you may or may not what to bring all of these items. But look at the two “kids” 18 year olds that got lost and disoriented in California a half mile from their car. They only had the shirts on their backs and maybe a bottle of water. The girl was in the canyons for four days and almost died.

That said this is the bare essentials I would bring on a trip.

Of course yourself! Comfortable appropriate clothing. (That’s for another blog) Hiking shoes and hiking socks… I have started wearing hiking socks! Big plus!

Food wise I choose mostly light weight easy to eat items in light weight food Tupperware containers. I love granola bars, raisins apples, grapes are great for hot hiking trips. Sometimes I bring a sandwich, but I usually would rather be on the move then stopping for a long time. Always of course bring what you like.

Water and liquids of choice weigh about 8 pounds a gallon. That is approximately one pound [er 16 ounces. How much water you bring really depends on how hot it is and how long you are going out for. The last thing you want is headaches or cramping.

Of course a day pack of your comfort. That is really a personal choice.

I always bring poncho. It is light and you can always use it to sit on. Definitely a knife. Compass is a must! Matches are also a must. Even if you do not have the proper clothing a fire will keep you warm.

The extras I like to bring for comfort is sunscreen, lip gloss and wetnaps (and baggies) for cleansing.

There are many more items that you will find essential. These are my basics.

HOW TO WEAR HAREM YOGA PANTS

HOW TO WEAR HAREM YOGA PANTS

First off I love these pants. They are so comfortable. You can lounge in them, do yoga in them or wear them to the grocery store.

HAREM YOGA PANTS SHOP

They are HUGE in so many other countries. I saw them all over. AUSTRALIANS ARE WEARING THEM. ARGENTINIANS ARE WEARING THEM. VIETNAMESE ARE WEARING THEM. And So many other places. These pants are hitting the runways in so many different styles. There is definitely a science to wearing them.

They look best with your shirt tucked in. If you do not normally tuck your shirt with this style it the time to start. It does not have to be tight, but a baggy or untucked shirt will not do. It will just look sloppy. The great thing about these pants is that they are a one size fits all!!!.

I would wear a simple tank top and beach flip-flops or aviators with this style. And guess what you could wear these pants as a romper. Even less effort on the weekends!!

WHAT I WISH I HAD IN EUROPE!

WHAT I WISH I HAD IN EUROPE

The world is ever changing and so it the way we travel. Traveling the world has reached a new perfection. There is now a new type of hybrid soft-sides wheeled backpack. They are truly a great asset to traveling. I had my wheeled luggage bag in Europe and had a very hard time navigating the cobblestone streets of Venice. It would have been such a relief to be able to carry my luggage through the streets instead of dragging the wheels over the bumpy streets. On the other hand it is great not to save your energy on the adventure activies and wheel your bag around. My favorite bag is the Victorinox Luggage Architecture 3.0 Big Ben Mono Retrax Backpack

Victorinox Luggage Architecture 3.0 Big Ben Mono Retrax Backpack, Black, One Size
I actually found it at a great price with $200.00 off the original price. Not bad!!
But another sleek smaller bag at a great price is
Victorinox Luggage Outrider Backpack, Black, 17.5

Victorinox Luggage Outrider Backpack, Black, 17.5

Which I found for 50% off the orinigal price. Cannot complain with that! More money for traveling!

ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN

ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN

What would be worse than to have taken months or even just weeks of great vacation and travel photos only to lose them. If you only have them saved on the memory card in your camera and your camera gets lost or damaged. I would I would be so upset with myself for not having the photos stored someplace else. You have a few great options.

If you are traveling light the easiest and cheapest way to go is to get a few 8 GB Memory Card.
SanDisk 8GB SD High Capacity Card (SDSDB-008G-B35)

Is a good product and it is cheap. At 8 GB you can take a lot of good quality photos and every week or so send the Memory Card home for safe keeping.
Second options is if you are bringing your laptop is can save your files directly to your laptop, althought I think there are better options such as online storage accounts like dropbox where you can store your files. This is a great option if you are working on the road and need to access your photos or work files from anywhere.
The Third option is if you are bring your laptop get an external hard drive like the Seagate Go Flex.

Seagate GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage 500 GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive STBF500101 Black

I think this version of the Seagate Go Flex is the best because you can wirelessly stream to your iPad, Sync your media library and documents on your PC or Mac, Stream 3 different movies over Wi-Fi simultaneously to 3 iPads, and you can stream up to 5 hours of video on a single charge. Talk about making life easier on the road.

WHAT I WISH I KNEW BEFORE WHEN TRAVELING

Recently my friend introduced me to this amazing product that I had to share. I wish I had known about this product when we were hiking five days straight in the Australian rainforest. There was no running water to shower in you definitely do not feel like you look your best by day three. Baby wipes and peroxide pads are great for your skin, but what do you do for your hair????

My friend introduced to me the idea of a dry shampoo.
Sauve puts out a great product at a great price.

Spray generously on roots and throughout hair then brush through. The dry shampoo contains keratin that absorbs the oils in your hair to refresh your hair in between washes. Also, great for extending blowouts. I am a fan.

Be a Little Flexible with Travel Days... Save Money.

If you can be a little flexible with Travel Days – Prices are based on supply and demand, so sometimes it’s much cheaper to leave the day before (or after) instead. Look around the dates of your travel plans and see if spending an extra day is worth it. This makes a difference especially around major holidays. In addition Expedia has tools that you can add travel destination and Expedia will alert you when great travel deals come up.

Another saving tool is to book as a bundle – Often if you Book your flight and hotel together you can get better discounts. The more business you give these third party companies the more offers they can give you.

Off- season travel is always great option. First off there are less other people traveling and better pricing. Often hotels and airlines jack up the pricing during the high season because there is so much demand. Even if it is the shoulder season to high season you are still going to find deals.

IF YOU CAN HELP IT… TRAVEL LIGHT

IF YOU CAN HELP IT… TRAVEL LIGHT

I know every woman wants to have her curling iron, blow dryer and her ten favorite pairs of shoes with her on vacation, but if you can travel light it will make your trip much easier. No checked bags to get lost or missing at baggage. No extra fees FOR checking luggage. No waiting at the airport to pick up your luggage at the baggage claim. You walk off the plane and you are on your way to your next destination. Plus you have everything you need on the plane with you. This is also is a plus if your first flight is delayed and you miss your connecting you have everything with you so there is no worry of your luggage making the connecting flight. I have a friend who three out of five times when he travels his suitcase is lost at the airport for half the trip. One might learn the second or third time (but he got $500 each time so the choice is yours to make)

Side note:
If you are going to one resort town for two weeks I say bring whatever you want. Unpack, move in, relax, and take your time. I loved staying in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for two weeks. I ran in the morning, laid poolside during the day, went on fun adventures during the afternoon, made friends from NYC, had amazing dinners oceanside at night and that was phenomenal. Very different from my backpacking trips.

DO NOT BRING ANYTHING YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE…THIS MAY INCLUDE YOUR HUSBAND

Travel can be fun, but it can have its challenges. Do not bring anything you cannot afford to lose. Nothing would ruin a trip more than you lose your grandmother’s ring or crush a pair of Chanel sunglasses. Leave at home anything that would be heartbreaking to break, lose or have stolen.

This might include your husband… lol just kidding, but if you do not travel well together it might be best he does his own fishing trip :)

THERE IS SO MUCH WORLD OUT THERE

No one person knows the world like their back of their own hand. There are a lot of great travelers out there who have seen the the corners of the world. Why not before you take any travel trip get some great advice on what to see and what not to see. Lonely Planet puts on some great adventure and travel books that I found very helpful.

WHAT I CANNOT TRAVEL WITHOUT... EVEN THOUGH I KNOW IT WOULD NOT BE THE END OF THE WORLD

One of my must haves when traveling is my camera. I feel lost without one. I have had a few different cameras, but my go to camera especially when I am on one of my crazy adventure trips such as caving in waist-high water in Belize or trekking glaciers in Patagonia I have found that having a water-proof, freeze proof, and drop proof camera is huge!!

I have this camera.

Fujifilm FinePix XP50 Digital Camera (Blue)

I think this camera looks pretty interesting because it has GPS capabilities

Nikon COOLPIX AW100 16 MP CMOS Waterproof Digital Camera with GPS and Full HD 1080p Video (Orange)

Also it has saved me money because before the travel tour company could only take the photos under the waterfalls because your camera would be ruined then you have to decide how badly do I want this touristy photo. With this camera you can take your own for free.
